12 Stones

12 Stones

What do these stones mean?

The hand of the Lord is powerful. God opened up the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross over into the desert, leaving behind their bondage and captivity in Egypt. The Lord then opened up another body of water, the Jordan, so the Israelites could cross over into the Promised Land. Both times the Israelites walked on dry land to their ultimate destination where the Lord was leading them.

When the Israelites got to the other side they took twelve rocks from the Jordan and stacked them on top of each other as a symbol of the power of God, “so that all of the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and that you might always fear the Lord.”

Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?‘ tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ For the LORD your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The LORD your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God.” Joshua 4:21-24

What are the 12 stones in your life? What is the symbol which represents the mark of your changed, circumcised life? If you are born once you will die twice, however if you are born again in Christ Jesus you are born twice and will die once. The stones are a display to all the people of the earth. Your transformed, redeemed, forgiven life is like the 12 stones displaying the power of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord delivers you from the bondage of sin and death. The fear of the Lord restores you into the righteousness which comes in Christ Jesus. The fear of the Lord triumphs over fear. The fear of the Lord brings peace, joy and contentment in the midst of the storm. If you fear man or the circumstance then there is no dry land on which to walk to the other side. However, if you fear the Lord and trust HIS WORD then HE can provide the dry land and deliver you in Christ Jesus.

Remember the symbol of the 12 stones as part of your deliverance from sin and death. Remember when the Lord delivered you from the bondage of slavery and addiction to sin. The Lord is powerful and sent HIS only son as the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind. The dry land you walk on is in Christ Jesus. Your father is the King of Kings. HE has pardoned you from all condemnation and received you as HIS dearly loved son and daughter. Wear the robe of righteousness which the King has given you.
