My flawed thinking caused me to think that Jesus began in Bethlehem. He lived for 33 years on earth, was put to death on the cross for the world’s sin, and on the third day He arose from the dead. Therefore He is alive. While this is definitely true, this was not Jesus’ beginning.
As you read this powerful scripture in John 1:1-5 ask yourself these three questions:
1. When did Jesus begin?
2. Who is the Word?
3. Where is life?
1IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
2He was present originally with God.
3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.
4In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.
5And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].
This was the big wow for me – that Jesus has been from the beginning. HE did not begin in Bethlehem. All things were made and came into existence through Him, and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. Jesus was present with God in the beginning. HE is God.
HE came to earth in the human flesh to be a sacrifice for the world’s sin. Life is in HIM Christ Jesus.
The big wow is that Jesus is God! Jesus Christ is the Word of God. You can know God by reading HIS Word. You can speak HIS Word. HIS Word is alive, active and powerful. HIS Word does not return void.
Delight today in God’s Word. Let the Word of God abide in you today.
