Beware On Guard
Beware On Guard
Beware of, guard against, watch out, take care, take heed, be careful of what?
What is Jesus warning to guard against? These are powerful words to protect you from being harmed. Recently I had to raise my voice at my grandson to get his attention as he was ready to poke his finger into a fire. What is Jesus telling you that is so important? HE is trying to get your attention because you are in danger of losing everything God has stored up for you. Here is what HE wants you to learn and warns against. This is Jesus speaking:
- Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15
Jesus is telling us that life does not consist in our possessions, material things, and supposed riches. HE is warning strongly to guard against all kinds of greed and covetousness.
What do you covet and want? Do you covet God or possessions?
Are you seeking, knocking and asking the Lord for all HE has for you or are you seeking worldly possession? The mind which continuously wants more (possessions) cannot be satisfied. Are you coveting your relationship with God or are you coveting possessions instead?
You cannot extend your life by having more possessions. Jesus Christ died for all mankind so that all might have life and have it more abundantly. Life is not extended by some man-made idol or possession.
Jesus also said in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Profit and wealth are to be used to further the Kingdom of God, to feed the sick, to heal the broken-hearted and to seek and save the lost. God’s covenant is established for HIS children to restore, reconcile and rebuild HIS Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.
Be on guard against all kinds of greed and covetousness; life does not consist in the abundance of your possessions, power and prestige.
