But I Did Obey

King Saul did not obey and thus lost his kingship. His selfish desires, blaming others, arrogance, and partial disobedience caused the loss of his kingship.

Are you partially disobedient? Are you disobedient away from home or your family, when playing sports, with old friends, or when traveling? Do you obey the Lord when you are at home or at Church?

20 “But I did obey the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king.
21 The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.”
22 But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.” 1 Samuel 15:20-23

Saul was speaking a lie. Saul did not fully obey. Partial obedience is not full, complete and total obedience. Saul was commanded to destroy everything of the Amalekites. The Amalekites were an enemy of God. However, Saul and his men destroyed everything which was weak and not usable. Saul and his men took everything which they perceived to be of value.

God’s Commands are a blessing. Disobedience causes broken relationships with God and man. Disobedience causes pain and suffering of your soul to you and others. Disobedience causes removal of your fellowship with God. Saul lost his Kingship.

Like teaching a child, God’s commands are for your good. You say “no” to the child for his own good; you command “don’t touch the fire” because it will burn him. God knows the consequence of rebellion and disobedience to HIS word. God’s commands are to bless you and the generations after you. God’s commands are to protect you not harm you. God’s commands are to bring you peace, joy, comfort, contentment and victory.

God is always looking for total surrender and obedience to HIM as King. HE is not satisfied with partial obedience. HE wants to bless HIS children because HIS commands are life, peace and power in Christ Jesus forever.

Say this prayer out loud!

Lord I submit my body, mind, will, emotions, all control and all desires to you in Jesus name.
