When are worry and anxiety greatest? Worry and anxiety are greatest when we focus beyond today’s daily bread. God gave the Israelites daily manna in the desert to test them. Will they trust God and follow God’s instruction? He gave them enough manna just for one day. If the Israelites kept more than they need it would turn into maggots. God met their needs and provided for HIS children in the desert. God responded and met their needs even when they complained about their current circumstance in the desert.
What is your test? Does the future look really difficult and dark? Does the future even tomorrow look hopeless? God used 40 years in the desert to test the Israelites. Will you be faithful? Will you endure to the end? Will you give up? Will you doubt God’s faithfulness? Will you trust God no matter the circumstance?
4 Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. 5 On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
Through testing, God wants to break you of your worries. The desert is the best place to humble and break you. Are you worried about manna for tomorrow? Will God deliver manna tomorrow? Can I trust God to give me manna tomorrow? I am afraid I will run out of manna. I will store up manna.
The purpose of the desert is to humble you in order to prove God’s might and strength. The desert will show what is in your heart. Are you going to trust in God’s goodness? Are you going to whine, complain and blame? Do you want to go back to Egypt? Will you be thankful for God’s goodness of provision of manna each day? His grace is sufficient each day. God gives you your daily bread each day, just enough and not too much. Are you going to try to store up manna?
HE will not give you more than you can handle. HIS promises are trustworthy. HE will provide for you each day. Manna is to teach you to trust HIM daily for your provision, and trust HIS goodness, HIS grace, HIS protection, HIS love, HIS mercy, HIS victory over sin and death, HIS forgiveness and HIS power. Thank you Lord for my daily bread; as your child I will never suffer lack. You will always provide for me with your love and grace. This is my daily bread.
