Do you need another wilderness experience?
If you do not learn the lesson in the wilderness, then you will stay in the wilderness where an entire generation perished, never making it to the Promised Land.
This is what God says from Deuteronomy 8:13 And when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all you have is multiplied, 14 Then your [minds and] hearts be lifted up and you forget the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
This is the way man tends to think in his mind and heart: When you have your dream house, new car, college education, fantastic job or career, 401K, perfect marriage, children, and money in the bank, then you think you will have security, success and significance. You are thankful for all you have accomplished. You believe you are so blessed that others recognize the power and might you have through your power, position and possessions.
This is what God says: 15 Who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, but Who brought you forth water out of the flinty rock, 16 Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end?
This is the way man tends to think in his mind and heart: Who led you through the death of a spouse, parent, child or sibling? Who led you through the loss of your house in foreclosure, the loss of income, job and marriage? Who led you through cancer, illness and abuse? Who led you through the time of loneliness, rejection, fear and condemnation?
This is what God says: 17 And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.
This is the way man tends to think in his mind and heart: I am self-made. I accomplished all this because I am really good at my work. I sacrificed to have such a nice house and car. I built all of this wealth by my own efforts. I really like the admiration which comes from people worshipping and respecting me.
This is what God says: 18 But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.19And if you forget the Lord your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. 20Like the nations which the Lord makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
