Go Learn What This Means

Jesus said go learn what he is teaching you. Here are questions to help you learn this teaching.
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13
Which is easier to offer: an act of mercy or an act of sacrifice?
Jesus wants you to learn what he is saying. What does he mean? The people were giving animal sacrifices, however they were not giving acts of love, mercy, compassion and kindness. Sacrifice is good, however to show mercy is better. God gave us the ultimate act of mercy by loving mankind so much HE sent Himself in Jesus Christ to redeem us from sin and death.
Who did Jesus call: the righteous or the sinner?
Jesus called the sinner who was repentant, not the self-righteous. Jesus knows that those who think they are self-righteous have a hard heart. Jesus knows those who recognize they are sinners have a soft heart willing to hear, receive and learn the Word of God. Their righteousness now comes through being in Christ Jesus, not in self-righteousness.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:8-10
The truth of God’s word can only enter in through a heart submitted, surrendered and yielding to God’s Word. When you confess your sin, you receive HIS righteousness. His righteous blood on the cross was shed to redeem you and set you free from the slavery of sin and death. You are made righteous in Christ Jesus.
Jesus wanted that all would come into repentance, however it is the sinner who needs a doctor, not the self-righteous.
