He is Risen!!!

How many people have risen from the dead?

Are there other leaders of the world’s religions who have not died?

Is it possible there is life after death?

If life after death is not an option, our bodies will rot and nothing else of us will survive. No consciousness. No happiness. No hope. Several decades of existentialist window dressing aside, what that really means is an accidental world with no ultimate meaning.

It is Jesus’ death and resurrection which makes him unique among religious leaders and among great leaders in general. Leaders have met with all manners of untimely death – assassination, self-inflicted death, accidental death – before the world was ready for them to go. But death sought and found them, nonetheless. What is not unique about Jesus is that his enemies killed him; what is unprecedented is that he foretold how and when it would happen and resigned himself to it (actually chose it), stating that death had no power over him.

Theologian R. C. Sproul has stated, “The claim of resurrection is vital to Christianity. If Christ has been raised from the dead by God, then He has the credentials and certification that no other religious leader possesses. Buddha is dead. Mohammad is dead. Moses is dead. Confucius is dead. But, according to Christianity, Christ is alive.”

In the book of Acts we read the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. The Apostles witnessed the resurrection of Christ Jesus. They were willing to die for their faith. The following is an account of the deaths of six of the Apostles of Christ. Do you think these Apostles died defending the resurrection because it did not happen?

Peter – widely believed to have been either beheaded or crucified (upside down) in Rome.

Matthew – arrested in Ethiopia and nailed to the ground with short spears and beheaded.

Andrew – crucified on an x-shaped cross in Greece.

Thomas – stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church there.

Matthias – stoned and then beheaded.

Paul – tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67.

Jesus Christ came to give you life. He came to set you free from sin and death. Your answer to the next question will change the course of your life for eternity: Do you believe Christ rose from the dead?
