Revenge is the wrong answer to hurt.
Forgiveness is the right answer to your hurt and emotional pain.
Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? [As many as] up to seven times?
Jesus answered him, “I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven!” Matthew 18:21-22
The world’s system, which is the enemy of God, teaches revenge as the solution to someone hurting you. Get even with the person who has hurt you. How is that system and philosophy of life working for you? Unless you have experienced the power of being forgiven you cannot give forgiveness. The Christian life is living a life of forgiveness.
When you have been hurt by someone and the pain is really deep, you have a choice of revenge or forgiveness.
God is a just God. HE is working ALL things together for HIS GLORY and good. When you have been a victim, logic says the criminal or person who committed the hurt should pay for the damage caused to you. In God’s justice, HE uses forgiveness as the method to draw people to HIM. The payment of forgiveness is paid by the victim not the criminal or person committing the hurt. The payment is always paid for by the victim. The victim is the one who gains justice through forgiveness. Through forgiveness you are made right with God.
God gave payment for the forgiveness of your sin and rebellion by giving HIS son Jesus Christ. When you experience the free gift of the forgiveness of sin, you will be able to offer forgiveness to others who have harmed, hurt and caused you suffering and pain.
It is the victim who gets to learn about the suffering which Christ experienced in forgiving you. You learn in your suffering by growing closer to God through understanding Christ Jesus. It is the victim who experiences the freedom from the hurt and pain inflicted by someone else.
You cannot put a limit on forgiveness. Go and forgive as Christ forgave you.
