The Gardener wants you to produce much fruit. Look at the progression from no fruit, to fruit, to more fruit, and finally much fruit. In your old nature of sin, you were fruitless. You were dead to sin. You received Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You are now alive in Christ (the vine) and have begun to bear fruit. As the Gardener prunes you, you begin to bear even
more fruit. You will bear
much fruit by remaining and abiding in HIM (the vine of Christ). Remaining in God’s word by putting it into practice will produce much fruit.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:1-8
The purpose of pruning is to purge the dead branches. There may be branches which are entangled around you. These branches are cutting off the nutrition from the vine. You might have some dead branches which need to be cut. These dead branches are draining you. The Gardener will want to prune you. The pruning is so you can be more fruitful and productive. The Gardener planted you. HE wants you to produce fruit which will last. HE is there to protect you and provide the nourishment needed for you during the pruning process. The Gardener is always seeking to get the best out of you. The Gardener will take away the good to get the best.
The Gardener will never leave you nor forsake you. HE is continually lifting your heavy branches so you can bear much fruit. You will not produce fruit unless you are connected to the vine. You are useless, unproductive and fruitless without this connection. Any fruit you produce is because of the vine, not because of you. It is by faith in Christ you are connected to the vine. It is this communion and connection which allows the flow of sap to bear fruit.
Seek first God’s connection today. You will find HIM when you seek HIM with all of your heart. The fruit will begin to grow when you are connected to the vine.
