Myths, Fairy Tales and Lies

Have you ever heard the statement, “God helps those who help themselves”?

Is this a biblical world view? Is this statement found in the bible? We are told that 33% of Christians believe this statement to be a Biblical statement and that it is found in the Word of God.

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 2 Thessalonians 3:10

The enemy of God wants us to believe in our own self-effort. The Bible is full of examples such as when God asked Gideon to reduce the size of his army so he and the Israelites would not boast of their own victory and strength. This was done to show that it was God who delivered the Israelites safely across the Red Sea and Jordan River, not the Israelites themselves through their own self-effort.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

The devil came to steal, kill and destroy. He wants you to think you can get to God by being good and working hard through your efforts. The myth that God helps those who help themselves is a lie. It is only the work of Jesus Christ which redeems man of his sin.

In Proverbs it says to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge God and HE will make your path straight. This is not a statement teaching self-effort. This is a statement teaching you to trust God, the creator of heaven and earth. God redeems man of his sin.

God’s word is active and alive. God’s word divides the heart and soul of man. Man’s myths draw you to self-effort and self-sufficiency. The lie of the enemy of God is trying to make you believe you don’t need God.

Jesus has given you victory over sin and death. HE has redeemed you from the curse of sin and brought you into the blessings of God. Your sin debt has been paid by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. It is by God’s grace and love for you that God gave HIS only son for the redemption of all mankind. Grace is the only way you can come to God through the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace is God’s favor on mankind through the gift of Jesus Christ for the redemption from the curse of sin.
