Restoration versus Righteousness

Restoration versus Righteousness

Nehemiah was on a mission to restore the walls of Jerusalem. The city was in rubble as if a tornado had torn through the city. The temple had been rebuilt but the walls and gates were still in rubble and need of restoration.

God is in the restoration business. HE takes what is broken and makes it new. The heart and soul of the city were in rubble. The rubble needed to be cleaned up. Anyone or anything could come and go in the city. There was no protection, for the walls were broken.

What is the end result of restoration? Psalms 23 tells us the Lord restores our soul and leads us on the paths of righteousness.

He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalms 23:3

God restores and rebuilds the walls of your soul, mind, emotions and will through the Word of God living in you. HE builds the walls of HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS high and secure so that when the enemy attacks your thoughts and mind, he cannot defeat you. The Word of God in you is a wall to protect your eyes and ears so that when the enemy attacks your mind and feelings, you will be able to submit yourself to the Lord and he will flee.

Without the walls and gates rebuilt, you will be living a vicious life-cycle of brokenness and restoration. You fall down and you get back up. You are broken and God restores you. This cycle continues. You fall down, you get up. You are broken and God restores you. The walls are walls of righteousness in Christ Jesus through the Word of God. This is your identity in Christ Jesus. There is no need to have the walls continually rebuilt and restored. You stand on solid ground knowing you have been washed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. You have been made righteous by what Jesus Christ did not by anything you do or don’t do. Your identity is not in your sin, but in HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

This is not about salvation. The Temple has been restored; it is in the middle of the City of Jerusalem. The walls to your soul and gates to your eyes and ears need to be guarded through the life-giving Spirit of God. The feeding on the Word of God for food builds the Wall around your soul and allows the gates to be locked to evil, wickedness and your sin-conscious. You are Righteous Conscious, open to the life-giving breathe of God’s Word living in the Temple inside of you.

As you seek first the Kingdom of God and HIS righteousness, the Lord restores your soul and you are led on the path of righteousness. You are no longer seeking the sin consciousness of your past; you are walking in the Righteousness of God as the Lord intended from the beginning of time.
