The Do-Nothing Unprofitable Servant

To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.  Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Matthew 25:29-30

What is the consequence to the unprofitable servant? He is cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

When the master returns, HE will ask you what you have done with the talents HE gave you.

Did you define your success by the world’s standard of wealth, recognition and position? Did you use these talents for yourself to gain wealth, fame, recognition and the praise of man? Did you bury your talents, skills, abilities and gifts seeking comfort, safety and the security of this world?

Or did you use these talents to further HIS Kingdom?

Jesus Christ the Master has a different way to measure your success with the use of your skills, abilities and gifts. When the Master returns he looks at your faithfulness, not your worldly success. The master is measuring your faithfulness to further HIS PURPOSE. The master called the unprofitable servant wicked and lazy. Do you want to be called wicked and lazy?

The world wants to see results, resumes, and accomplishments as a way to judge success. God is continually looking at your heart. HIS measurement is your faithfulness to HIM. Did you use what was given to you to further the Kingdom of God? HE gave you skills, gifts and abilities and what did you do with them?

The problem with the unprofitable servant was that he did not invest what skills, abilities and gifts God had given him. He hid and buried his talents. The master wanted the unprofitable servant to do something. The master wanted him to put his talents at trade and work. The master wanted the unprofitable servant to be in the marketplace. The master wanted to see the skills and abilities used to serve others. But the unprofitable servant had other priorities. The unprofitable servant had his own agenda, not the Master’s Agenda.

Will the master find you profitable or unprofitable when HE returns?
