The Exhaustive Life
Are you tired? Are you bound up and burned out? Are you exhausted and tired of trying to live life on your own effort rather through Christ who lives in you as a believer?
Which version of Galatians 2:20-21 best describes you?
- Version one
I have not been crucified with Christ and I live by my own selfish desires because I am not allowing Christ’s power and strength to reign in me. The life I live in the body I live by emotions, feelings, sight and self-effort in my own purpose and passions seeking pleasure and self-gratification. God, who loved me and gave himself for me, I set aside your grace and your righteousness because I can gain righteousness through my good works and self-effort. Galatians 2:20-21 Paraphrased
- Version two
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! Galatians 2:20-21
It is impossible to live the Christian life on your own. The Christian life can only be lived in Christ. Without God, you will become exhausted trying to live a good and righteous life. You will fail. Righteous living is only found in Christ Jesus.
Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Any good or righteous act in you comes from Christ in you, the hope of Glory.
The Holy Spirit living in you gives you the power to live the Christian Life. The Holy Spirit is God in you. God is righteous and holy living in you. HIS Spirit is shown through love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, goodness, kindness and self-control. HIS Spirit shows through as you forgive others as HE has forgiven you. HIS Spirit shows through you in contentment and gentleness.
HIS Spirit living in the born-again believer has given you power to overcome sin, death and Satan. Jesus came to give you an abundant life, not an exhaustive life. God’s Spirit living in you is rest.
