What is it that you want?

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Psalm 23

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:1-3

Because David made the Lord his shepherd he did not want. The want went away. Is the want for your own selfish way? Is the want to be recognized for your effort? Is the want and desire for more? The pride and ego of the sheep had to come under the authority of the shepherd. When David came under the authority of God his want went away. His desire was to know God more than the selfish pleasures of this world.

God’s Word is more precious than gold. When you want and seek God more than you seek gold this is the beginning of understanding and wisdom. When you want the shepherd to lead you by still waters, when you want to fear no evil, when you want truth, when you want the comfort of the shepherd’s rod and staff, then you are ready to let go of your want.

Jesus Christ said HE is the way, the truth and the life. HE is the good shepherd. HE is your rod and staff that will tap you on your side to get you back on the path. He is your comforter in times of trouble. He will protect you from your enemies. He has given you HIS Word to guide and direct you with HIS SPIRIT.

Follow the shepherd and he will lead you on the right path for HIS purpose. Find out where the shepherd is leading you. His path is a perfect path. He will not let you go astray. He will bring you back onto the path.
