Who is on the throne?

114x114-Repple-MinuteWho is on the throne?

What can happen if you are standing on a chair? How far can you fall? Now come down off the chair and stand on the floor. How far can you fall? Now get down on your knees. How far can you fall? Now lie prone on the ground with your arms out straight. How far can you fall?

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite hear, O God, you will not despise.” Psalm 51:17

When you stand on the chair in your own self-effort and proud heart, you have a long way to fall. Pride precedes a great fall. Standing on the chair is your attempt to be God: I created all of this. I am in control. I know the way. I accomplished all of this. I did this. I am great. I need to be recognized. I am important.

A dead man cannot be hurt. A dead man has no rights. A dead man does not complain or blame. A dead man does not care what others think.

James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and HE will lift you up. When you are prone on the ground broken in spirit, then the power of the Lord can begin working in your life.

Deuteronomy 8:2
Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep HIS commands. When you are standing on the chair filled with arrogance, pride and self-effort, God knows what is in your heart.

Standing on the chair is like you trying to produce your own fruit. You cannot produce love, joy, peace, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control apart from being connected to the vine.

“Jesus said, I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:1-8

Jesus came so you can have life and have it in abundance. You can choose to stand on the chair or allow the glory of the Lord to work through you prone on the ground. What kind of fruit are you producing standing on the chair?
