Your pardon must be accepted

“Helping People Fulfill God’s Plan For Their Lives Through Business”

Your pardon must be accepted

Let’s say you decide to rob a postal worker. In your criminal act you kill a government worker. You are promptly caught, tried and found guilty of your crime. You are sentenced to death for your crime. And after all that, you are given a pardon and freed. Would you accept the pardon? You must accept the pardon to be set free.

In 1830, a man named George Wilson was convicted of killing a government employee while robbing a U.S mail carrier. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to be hanged. Andrew Jackson, then President, issued a pardon for Wilson, but Wilson did a strange thing: he refused to accept the pardon.
The matter went all the way to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Marshall concluded that Wilson must be executed. “A pardon is a slip of paper,” wrote Marshall, “the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged.” A few weeks went by and Wilson walked up thirteen steps. A black hood was placed over his head and a rope around his neck. Like a bolt of lightning, his body fell several feet. The head jerked, the neck snapped, and after a few convulsive moments all was quiet. Wilson was dead! Why? Because he refused the pardon.

Are you rejecting God’s pardon? He has given you a pardon. God is the only one who can give you a pardon. Have you received your pardon? Your salvation is a gift from God. It cannot be earned through good works. It is by grace you are saved through faith and not of yourself. It is a gift from God.

Most would believe George Wilson was a fool for rejecting the pardon. Yet millions of people reject the truth which God has given them through the resurrected Jesus Christ. George Wilson believed in the pardon. He knew he could be pardoned. He refused to accept the pardon.

The pardon Christ Jesus offers sets you free from the bondage of sin and death. You have to accept and receive the forgiveness of sin to be redeemed and pardoned of your sin. Going to church, reading your bible and believing in Jesus does not pardon your sin. You have to accept the free gift which Jesus gives you on the cross by the shedding of his blood for your sin. Knowing about Jesus and the forgiveness of sin is not enough. You have to accept the pardon.

And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

Walk today as a freed man or woman pardoned for all of your sin. There is not a sin God will not forgive. HE has paid the price for your pardon through HIS only Son. You can be freed of being locked up in your sin of cursing God, blaming others, unforgiveness, complaining, loving other gods and trying to find fulfillment everywhere except in Christ. Accept the pardon for your sin today.
