Your roots are in slavery

We don’t think of our family roots as going back to Adam. However, because of your spiritual heritage, you are born as a slave to sin.

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you do what you have heard from your father.” John 8:34-38

You are not born a Christian. Nobody is born into the Kingdom of God. Without Jesus your human condition would be slavery. You are born a slave to sin.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. 1John 2:15-16

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4

Christ’s offering on the cross has taken away the condemnation of sin and death. You are adopted into the Kingdom of God through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity–for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 2 Peter 2:19

Sin has no mastery over you. If the SON has set you free you are free indeed. Make it your desire to be a slave of Christ Jesus.

Jesus be the Lord of my life today. Mold and shape me any way you want. Make me an instrument of your love and peace, your mercy and truth, and your righteousness and justice.
